Greendale

I like this map a lot and the album too. I think its kind of funny how it tries to look like a map by being all yellow-y. It reminds me of all these REALLY SWEET panoramic maps found here online at the library of congress.

Greendale, the album by Neil Young, has its own website here.

Mississippi River Alluvial History

I think this is a really pretty map (you can click for a bigger version).

What you're looking at is the southern tip of Illinois near Cairo (see below). The different colors represent the various courses (meanders) the Mississippi River has taken in the past. It was put together using old maps and aerial photographs by Howard Fisk in 1944 for the Army Corps of Engineers.

There are a more in the series, and they can be found on radicalcartography.net.

Worldwide Google

This is map is an animated gif made by Google labs to show the location of Google search activity over a 24 hour period. I think it's pretty cool.

I've been trying to embed the beacon from automatedbeacon.net in this post so that you could simultaneously glimpse the kinds of searches people make as well as where they make them, but I can't seem to figure it out. In any case, check out the automated beacon.
